Subj: Sentry Duties and General Orders
General Order I
To take charge of this post and all Government property in view
Carry out all duties of the Sentry effectively and efficiently.
Respect members of the guard in the performance of duty.
Report all unusual or suspicious occurrences to the Corporal on Guard (CoG).
General Order II
To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert and observing everything that takes place within sight of hearing.
Constantly be alert.
Alter the Corporal on Guard of any need to stand down.
General Order III
To report all violations of order I am instructed to enforce.
General Order IV
To repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guardhouse than my own.
Provide at least two warnings for unauthorized civilians to retreat from the gate.
Respectfully announce all requests on shout.
General Order V
To quit my post only when properly relieved.
When being relieved, direct the replacement guard to the black mat, and stand down diagonally between the plinths until he/she stands their post.
If no relief is available, request permission to stand down to the Corporal on Guard.
General Order VI
To receive, obey, and pass on to the sentinel who relieves me, all orders from the Corporal on Guard (CoG), and the Officer on Deck (OOD).
General Order VII
To talk to no one except in the line of duty.
General Order VIII
To give the alarm in case of disturbances or disorder.
As soon as practicable, the guard will notify the CoG/OOD of any disturbances in headquarters.
General Order IX
To call the Corporal on Guard in any case not covered by instructions.
General Order X
To salute all officers and all colors and standards not cased.
All Officers (CWO2+), allied and personnel, are to be saluted before entry.
General Order XI
To be especially watchful during the time of war, to challenge all persons on or near my post and to allow no one to pass without proper authority.
